Summer Camp Update

Summer Camp Update
The executive board of the Garden State Council has made the difficult decision to cancel in-person summer camps in 2020 (see the email sent 5/28 at 9am for details). This decision is specific to nationally-accredited programs planned for June and July: Scouts BSA resident camp at Camp Roosevelt, Cub Scout Day Camps, and STEM Day Camp.
While this is disappointing news, it does not mean the summer season in the Garden State Council is canceled. Far from it!
Our board and staff are committed to providing the youth of South Jersey options this summer that feature many of the FUN parts of summer camp: campfires, skills, activities, skits, songs, and Scout spirit. And, we are 100 percent committed to delivering the fun of Scouting in a safe, socially distant way.
This summer, you are invited to attend “Camp Connected!”
“Camp Connected” is a virtual experience designed by educators and camp staff for youth members of both Cub Scouts and Scouts BSA.
Registration for the Scouts BSA program and the Cub program will open by Friday, May 29. Find the registration links at
Also, our camping committee is working to safely open facilities this summer. By June 15, the council will release a plan to safely re-open its camping facilities, and we will host a series of fun “Program Weekends” for units and families to get back outdoors as soon as possible.
There will be opportunities to wrap up merit badges, and experience shooting sports, fishing, ATVs, COPE and climbing, orienteering, boating, geocaching, hiking, and cycling. Units that have 12 or more Scouts attend any one week of “Camp Connected” will earn FREE camping at any selected “Program Weekend.”
